FULL DATA PATH PROTECTION
Any data that is transferred to the drive is protected via a powerful error correction mechanism. For the first time in the industry, the error correction is also applied to the cache memory and to the spare area of the flash, the critical area that stores the mapping information. The MTBF of the MACH8 Solid State Drive is 2,800,000 hours, twice as much as the best-in-class HDD. The non-recoverable error rate is less than 1 error per 1020 bits read.
POWER DOWN PROTECTION
The MACH8 Solid State Drive employs both hardware and software mechanisms to prevent data loss in case of power fluctuation or power loss. The hardware protection prolongs power long enough to transfer all the data from the cache to the non-volatile memory. The software protection assures data integrity by verifying that valid data are not overwritten by corrupted data.
EXTRAORDINARY ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS
Given that there are no moving parts and thanks to the optimized sub-system design, the MACH8 Solid State Drive can withstand extreme environmental conditions.
The drive will survive random vibrations up to 16.3G and operating shocks up to 1,500G. As any STEC's flash products, the MACH8 Solid State Drive is available also in industrial temperature Range (-40; 85C), with non-operating temperature ranging from -55C up to 95C. Relative humidity can ranges from 5% up to 95% and altitude goes from 1,000ft (-304.80m) up to 80,000ft (24,384m).
LOWER POWER CONSUMPTION
MACH8 Solid State Drive consumes only 2.1W in operating mode, roughly half of high-end rotating HDD. The same consideration applies for the idle state, with MACH8 consuming only 550mA.

As more technology is packed into tighter designs, the need for smaller solid state storage formats will increase.

Revolutionizing the way solid state storage is used; STEC’s new MACH4 platform enables system designers to reduce the footprint and power envelope of their designs allowing them to offer unprecedented products to their customers. Because the MACH4 uses solid state NAND flash technology, it has very low latency compared to a traditional hard disk drive, consumes far less power (approximately 200 milliamps or 1 watt compared to 12 watts for a standard 7200rpm ATA disk drive), and performs much better under extreme environmental conditions – e.g. shock, vibration, altitude, humidity, and temperature. In addition, throughput up to 90 megabytes per second means no compromise in performance and high capacity (up to 32 gigabytes using MLC flash) means sufficient storage capacity for virtually all embedded applications.
There really is no limit to the design possibilities around MACH4. Because of its ultra-compact size, high throughput, and low power consumption, it can be used as a drive replacement for virtually any device with extreme space-constraints or those requiring standard hard disk like performance with much lower power demands.
